Tiny 1930's Mikky Phone Japanese Portable Crank Phonograph, Complete & Original!

I came upon this fascinating little machine many years ago at an estate sale outside Boston, and while it took me a while to figure out just what it was, I knew right away that I wanted it. What it was – and is – is a Mikky Phone, a portable crank phonograph made in Japan in the 1930’s. You might even call it the ultimate portable phonograph – when all packed and closed up, it measures just 6”h x 4.5” w x4”d, yet it plays full-sized 78 RPM records! I was, and am, which explains the odd thing I have to confess: I have never actually used this phonograph. I’ve never even assembled it – despite the step-by-step instructions the original owner wrote out for himself and tucked into the case, where they remain – because I liked this little phonograph so much that I was afraid I might somehow screw something up while attempting to assemble (or dissemble) it. And so, these many years later, it remains exactly as I found it – complete and intact, in very fine condition, and unused since, perhaps, the Great Depression. I’ve never even cleaned it. If you’ve always wanted one of these, but worried you’d never find one in really fine, all-original and complete condition, this is your lucky day – you won’t find a nicer one!
